The Sun Hydraulics RVGELWV (RVGELWV) is a fast-acting, ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed for pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve regulates pressure by opening to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches a set threshold, allowing flow throttling. It features a vent port for remote control by other valves, making it versatile for various applications. The RVGELWV is suitable for cross-port relief circuits due to its ability to accept maximum pressure at port 2; however, spool leakage should be considered in such uses. Notably, it is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential leakage. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to reduce the risk of internal binding from installation torque or machining variations. Key specifications include a cavity type T-17A with a series 3 capacity of 60 gpm (240 L/min) and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The control pilot flow ranges from 15 to 20 in³/min (0.25 to 0.33 L/min), with a typical response time of 2 ms. Maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is specified at 4 in³/min at 1000 psi (65 cc/min at 70 bar). Adjustment settings can be increased through five clockwise turns, and installation requires specific torque values: valve installation torque is between 150 and 160 lbf ft (203 to 217 Nm), while locknut torque ranges from 80 to 90 lbf in (9 to 10 Nm). The valve's hex size is measured at 1¼ inches (31.8 mm), with an internal hex size for adjustment screws of ^5⁄32 inches (4 mm) and locknut hex size of ^9⁄16 inches (15 mm). The model weighs approximately 1.60 lb (0.70 kg) and includes a Viton seal kit cartridge option under part number: 990017006.

Fast-acting, ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
