The Sun Hydraulics RVBALQN (RVBALQN) is a ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge, designed as a normally closed pressure regulating valve. It operates by opening to the tank port when the inlet port pressure reaches its set value, thereby throttling flow to maintain regulated pressure. Notably, it features a vent port that allows for remote control via other pilot or 2-way valves. This valve is characterized by its accuracy, low pressure rise against flow, smooth operation, quiet performance, and moderate speed. It is capable of accepting maximum pressure at port 2 and can be used in cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The minimum setting across all spring ranges is 75 psi (5 bar), but it is not suitable for load holding due to potential spool leakage. The back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The main stage orifice is contamination-protected and features Sun’s floating style construction to minimize internal binding from excessive torque or machining variations. This cartridge fits into a T-163A cavity with a capacity of 7.5 gpm (30 L/min) and has factory pressure settings established at 4 gpm (15 L/min). It operates under a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), with control pilot flow ranging from 7 to 10 in³/min (0.11 to 0.16 L/min) and typical response time of approximately 10 ms. Maximum valve leakage at 110 SUS (24 cSt) is specified at 2 in³/min (30 cc/min) at 1000 psi (70 bar). The adjustment requires up to five clockwise turns for increased settings with specific torque requirements for installation and adjustment components provided.

Ventable, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. They provide a vent port (port 3) that connects between the main piston and pilot stage to provide for remote control by other pilot or 2-way valves. These valves are accurate, have low pressure rise vs. flow, they are smooth and quiet, and are moderately fast.
- A remote pilot relief on port 3 (vent) will control the valve below its own setting.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Minimum setting is 75 psi (5 bar) for all spring ranges.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- The main stage orifice is protected against contamination.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
