The Sun Hydraulics RPKELWN (RPKELWN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly when the inlet port pressure reaches the valve setting, diverting flow to the tank port and limiting further pressure increases. The RPKELWN is characterized by its low pressure rise versus flow and exceptional speed in operation, though this comes at the cost of smoothness. It is interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. The valve can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for cross-port relief circuits, although spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is safeguarded by a 150-micron stainless steel screen. This cartridge is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Any back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Featuring Sun's floating style construction, it minimizes internal parts binding from excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The RPKELWN fits into a Cavity T-18A Series 4 and has a capacity of 200 gpm (760 L/min). It operates at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) with a typical response time of 2 ms and maximum valve leakage of 5 in\u00b3/min at 110 SUS (24 cSt) under conditions of 1000 psi (70 bar).
