The Sun Hydraulics RPESCAV (RPESCAV) is a pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridge designed for precise pressure regulation in hydraulic systems. This normally closed valve activates when the pressure at inlet port 1 reaches the set threshold, allowing it to open towards tank port 2 and throttle flow to maintain stable pressure levels. Known for its accuracy, smooth operation, and quick response time of approximately 7 milliseconds, this valve is also engineered to minimize noise and prevent manifold erosion due to cavitation. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, making it suitable for load-holding applications. The RPESCAV is relatively insensitive to variations in oil temperature and contamination, ensuring reliable performance across different conditions. The valve's design allows it to accept maximum pressure at port 2, making it ideal for cross-port relief circuits. Back pressure on the tank port is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RPESCAV incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which reduces the risk of internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge installations. With an adjustable range facilitated by W or Y controls and a factory-established pressure setting at 4 gpm (15 L/min), this cartridge offers flexibility in various applications. The installation torque ranges between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), with adjustment capabilities provided through an internal hex screw size of 5/32 inches (4 mm). Weighing just .30 lb (.15 kg), this compact valve uses Viton seals with an available seal kit under material number 990310006.

Pilot-operated, balanced-poppet relief cartridges are normally closed pressure regulating valves. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to regulate the pressure. These valves are accurate, smooth, quiet, fast, and have low pressure rise vs. flow.
- Because the modulating occurs inside the cartridge, these valves are immune to most of the problems associated with cavitation, namely noise and manifold erosion.
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits.
- Valve is relatively insensitive to varying oil temperatures and oil borne contamination.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Suitable for use in load holding applications.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- W and Y controls (where applicable) can be specified with or without a special setting. When no special setting is specified, the valve is adjustable throughout its full range using the W or Y control. When a special setting is specified, this setting represents the maximum setting of the valve.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
