The Sun Hydraulics PVHBCHV (Material Number: PVHBCHV) is a ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet to a consistent reduced pressure at port 1. It features a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank port 3 and includes a vent port (port 4) that allows for remote control by pilot or two-way valves. This valve is engineered with Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The maximum operating pressure is rated at 5000 psi (350 bar), and it has a control pilot flow ranging from 15 to 20 in\u00b3/min (0.25 to 0.33 L/min). The valve exhibits very low deadband transition between reducing and relieving modes, exceptional stability, low hysteresis, and flat pressure-flow characteristics. The PVHBCHV model can accommodate systems using phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals, although these seals are susceptible to damage from petroleum-based fluids, greases, and lubricants. Recommended maximum inlet pressures vary by adjustment range: Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with up to a 2000 psi (140 bar) differential; Ranges A, B, and H can handle up to a 3000 psi (210 bar) differential; while Ranges C and W can withstand an inlet pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar). To prevent the main spool from closing during reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2, consider integrating an additional check valve in the circuit if free reverse flow is needed. The effective setting of the valve can be adjusted below its nominal setting by controlling the pressure at vent port 4.

Ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3). The vent port (port 4) can be used as a means for remote control by pilot or 2-way valves.

  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit very low dead-band transition between reducing and relieving modes.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • By controlling the pressure at the vent (port 4), the effective setting of the valve can be controlled below the nominal valve setting.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
