The Sun Hydraulics PVHBCDN (PVHBCDN) is a versatile ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valve designed to maintain a constant reduced pressure at port 1 while offering full-flow relief from port 1 to tank port 3. This valve is equipped with a vent port (port 4) that allows for remote control via pilot or two-way valves. It ensures precise pressure control with its low deadband transition between reducing and relieving modes. The valve's performance is characterized by exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics, stability, and low hysteresis, making it suitable for applications requiring precise pressure regulation. The PVHBCDN model incorporates Sun's floating style construction, which minimizes the risk of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and features a capacity of 40 gpm (160 L/min). The valve is compatible with phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids can damage these seals. Adjustment of the valve setting is achieved through clockwise turns, with specific torque requirements for installation and locknut adjustments. In terms of reverse flow capabilities, the main spool may close if full reverse flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2 occurs; hence, incorporating a separate check valve in the circuit might be necessary if reverse free flow is required. The PVHBCDN model is tested across different spring ranges with maximum differential pressures varying by range: Ranges D and E at 2000 psi (140 bar), Ranges A and B at 3000 psi (210 bar), and Range W at an inlet pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). This pilot-operated valve offers reliable performance in demanding hydraulic systems where consistent pressure reduction and relief are crucial.

This pilot-operated valve offers reliable performance in demanding hydraulic systems where consistent pressure reduction and relief are crucial.
Ventable, pilot-operated pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3). The vent port (port 4) can be used as a means for remote control by pilot or 2-way valves.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit very low dead-band transition between reducing and relieving modes.
- Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- By controlling the pressure at the vent (port 4), the effective setting of the valve can be controlled below the nominal valve setting.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
