The Sun Hydraulics PRHRKAV (PRHRKAV) is a direct-acting pressure reducing valve designed to reduce high primary pressure at inlet port 2 to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. This model is known for its stable operation due to its damped construction, allowing for the use of high reduced pressures. It features no relieving capability, making it unsuitable for deadheaded applications, as low leakage in the reduced pressure side can cause significant pressure rise. The PRHRKAV serves as an effective replacement for an LPC valve when a normally open, restrictive compensating element with higher pressure drop across an orifice is necessary. It allows full reverse flow from port 1 to port 2, but this may close the main spool; thus, incorporating a separate check valve in the circuit might be needed if reverse free flow is required. All spring ranges are tested with a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), making it suitable for accumulator circuits due to reduced secondary circuit leakage from the absence of pilot control flow. The direct-operated design offers superior dynamic response compared to pilot-operated models and features Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve supports up to 40 gpm (160 L/min) capacity and has factory-established pressure settings at 2 in\u00b3/min (30 cc/min). With a maximum valve leakage of 4 in\u00b3/min (65 cc/min) at 110 SUS (24 cSt), it provides reliable performance under various conditions. Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure.

  • Note: This valve has no relieving capability. It should not be used in a dead-headed application. If the reduced pressure side of the circuit has very low leakage the pressure may rise significantly. The pressure rise will vary from valve to valve.
  • This type of valve, PR*R, is a good replacement for an LP*C as a normally open, restrictive compensating element if a higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • All spring ranges are tested for correct operation with 5000 psi (350 bar) inlet pressure.
