The Sun Hydraulics PRFRLBN (PRFRLBN) is a direct-acting pressure reducing valve designed to minimize high primary pressure at inlet port 2 to a consistent reduced pressure at port 1. It features a damped construction for stable operation and supports high reduced pressure usage. Notably, this valve lacks relieving capability, making it unsuitable for deadheaded applications; significant pressure rise can occur if the reduced pressure side has minimal leakage. PRR valves serve as effective replacements for LPC models when a higher pressure drop across an orifice is essential. They are compatible with phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals, but exposure to petroleum-based fluids will damage these seals. The valve's design allows full reverse flow from port 1 to port 2, which may close the main spool; incorporating a separate check valve is advisable if reverse free flow is needed in the circuit. The PRFRLBN model operates effectively in accumulator circuits due to its lack of pilot control flow, reducing secondary circuit leakage and offering superior dynamic response compared to pilot-operated models. Direct-acting, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1. These valves incorporate a damped construction for stable operation allowing the use of high reduced pressure.
- Note: This valve has no relieving capability. It should not be used in a dead-headed application. If the reduced pressure side of the circuit has very low leakage the pressure may rise significantly. The pressure rise will vary from valve to valve.
- This type of valve, PR*R, is a good replacement for an LP*C as a normally open, restrictive compensating element if a higher pressure drop across an orifice is needed.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
