The Sun Hydraulics PPHFCWV (PPHFCWV) is a pilot-operated, pressure reducing-relieving valve designed to manage high primary pressures at the inlet port 2 and reduce them to a consistent lower pressure at port 1. It features a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank port 3. This valve includes an orifice drilled directly into the piston, enhancing its durability for demanding applications. The pressure at port 3 adds directly to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum allowable pressure of 3000 psi (210 bar). The recommended maximum inlet pressure varies based on adjustment ranges: D, E, N, and Q are tested with up to a 2000 psi (140 bar) differential; A, B, and H with up to 3000 psi (210 bar); and C and W with up to 5000 psi (350 bar). These valves exhibit stable performance with low hysteresis due to their exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics. They are not fast-acting valves; for applications requiring superior dynamic response, direct acting valves may be more suitable. The PPHFCWV model is interchangeable with other three-port pressure reducing-relieving cartridges of the same frame size. It incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a flow capacity of up to 40 gpm (160 L/min), it operates efficiently within its specified parameters. Installation requires specific torque settings for both the valve body and adjustment components. Notably, if reverse free flow is needed from reduced pressure port 1 back to inlet port 2, an additional check valve should be considered as this may cause the main spool to close.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).

  • These valves have the main stage orifice drilled into the piston rather than a staked-in orifice. This allows the valve to survive physically demanding applications.
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.

When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
