The Sun Hydraulics PPFDOKV (PPFDOKV) is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing/relieving valve designed to maintain a consistent reduced pressure at port 1 from a higher primary pressure at inlet port 2, while also providing a full-flow relief function to tank port 3. This valve features a .020-inch bleed orifice that biases the valve into reducing mode in dead-headed conditions, enhancing responsiveness to sudden flow demands. The pressure at port 3 can directly add to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio, with a maximum allowable pressure of 3000 psi. Inlet pressure recommendations vary by adjustment range, with Ranges D, E, N, and Q tested for up to 2000 psi differential and Ranges A, B, and H for up to 3000 psi. Ranges C and W handle up to 5000 psi inlet pressure. This valve showcases exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics with high stability and low hysteresis. However, reverse flow from port 1 to port 2 may close the main spool; thus, incorporating an additional check valve is advisable if reverse free flow is required. The PPFDOKV model incorporates Sun's floating style construction to mitigate internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It fits into the T-2A cavity series with a capacity of up to 20 gpm and operates under pressures as high as 5000 psi. For optimal performance in various applications requiring stable and reliable pressure control, this model offers easy adjustability with an internal hex adjustment screw and locknut for secure settings. Its design ensures compatibility across different configurations by maintaining consistent flow paths and cavity requirements within its frame size category.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing/relieving valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, with a full-flow relief function from port 1 to tank (port 3).
- This valve incorporates a .020 (0,51 mm) in. diameter bleed orifice between the reduced pressure and tank. This biases the valve into a reducing mode in a dead headed condition which helps the valve respond to a sudden call for flow.
- Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
- Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
- Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
- All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
