The Sun Hydraulics NFFDLIN (Material Number: NFFDLIN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice valve allows for infinite adjustment from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for use as both a flow control and a shutoff valve. The NFFDLIN model is not pressure compensated, meaning the flow regulation is directly proportional to the square root of the pressure differential across its ports. It features a balanced adjustment mechanism that facilitates easy adjustments even under high pressures, and its sharp-edged orifice design minimizes variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity. This needle valve is bidirectional but is optimized for flow from port 1 to port 2, ensuring interchangeability with other flow controls. Notably, there is no leakage when the valve is shut off completely. The cartridge's dimensions are standardized for interchangeability with other 2-port flow control cartridges of the same frame size, though extension dimensions may vary. The NFFDLIN model has a capacity of 140 gpm (530 L/min) and can operate at a maximum pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar). The adjustment mechanism allows for up to 5.5 counterclockwise turns from fully closed to fully open. Installation requires specific torque settings: 350-375 lbf ft (474-508 Nm) for the valve and 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm) for the locknut. The model weighs approximately 3 pounds (1.35 kg) and uses Viton seals; however, EPDM seals are available for systems using phosphate ester fluids, with caution against exposure to petroleum-based substances which can damage these seals.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
