The Sun Hydraulics FRDDXAV (Material Number: FRDDXAV) is a bypass-restrictive, fixed-orifice, priority flow control valve designed to manage input flow efficiently by prioritizing flow to port 3 and diverting excess flow to port 2. This valve is engineered with enhanced damping compared to the FRDA model, addressing system instability issues. It requires a customer-specified flow rating, with factory settings accurate within 10% of the requested specification. The valve can handle a maximum pressure of 3000 psi (210 bar) at port 3, while both priority and bypass flows can operate up to the system's operating pressure. Notably, priority flow remains stable regardless of input variations, ensuring consistent operation until demand is met. The design allows for pressure at port 2 to surpass that at port 3 if necessary. The valve features a sharp-edged orifice design that minimizes flow variation due to viscosity changes and offers a tuneable adjustment control option for up to 25% variation from the nominal preset flow. Adjustments are made via three turns of an internal hex screw. The Sun floating style construction reduces the risk of internal part binding due to excessive torque or machining variations. This model fits into cavity T-2A and belongs to series 2, with a capacity of up to 12 gpm (45 L/min) and maximum input flow capability of 30 gpm (120 L/min). It is designed for installation with a torque range between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm), featuring an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 in. (4 mm), locknut hex size of 9/16 in. (15 mm), and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf in. (9-10 Nm). The FRDDXAV weighs approximately .40 lb (.20 kg) and uses Viton seal kits for reliable performance.

Bypass/restrictive, fixed-orifice, priority flow controls take an input flow at port 1 and use it to satisfy the priority flow at port 3. If the input flow exceeds the priority flow requirement, the excess is bypassed out port 2. The bypass flow may be used in a secondary circuit.
- This valve is more highly damped than the FRDA to help solve system instability problems.
- Customer must specify a flow rating. Factory set flow ratings are within +/- 10% of the requested setting.
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Both priority and bypass flow are usable up to the system operating pressure.
- Priority remains relatively constant regardless of variation in input flow.
- Bypass flow is not available until priority flow requirements are satisfied.
- Pressure at the bypass port (port 2) may exceed pressure at the priority port (port 3).
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- A tuneable adjustment control option provides up to +/- 25% variation from the nominal factory pre-set flow. Adjustment is done with +/- 3 turns of the adjust screw. Screw in (CW) to increase flow.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
