The Sun Hydraulics FRDCXIV (FRDCXIV) is a modified flow control valve designed to operate in bypass mode only, enhancing system stability in certain applications. It features a unique modification of the FRDA valve, where priority flow ceases to be pressure-compensated if bypass pressure exceeds the priority port's pressure. This valve requires customers to specify a flow rating, with factory-set ratings accurate within 10% of the requested setting. The maximum pressure at port 3 should not exceed 3000 psi (210 bar). The valve ensures that bypass flow becomes available only after fulfilling priority flow requirements. Its sharp-edged orifice design reduces variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity. The FRDCXIV model includes a tunable adjustment control option that allows up to a 25% variation from the nominal factory preset flow, adjusted through three turns of an internal hex adjustment screw. The screw is turned clockwise to increase flow. Sun's floating style construction minimizes internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque or variations in cavity/cartridge machining. It fits into a T-2A cavity and belongs to Series 2 with a capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min). The valve supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and a maximum input flow of 30 gpm (120 L/min). Installation specifications include a valve hex size of 1-1/8 inches (28.6 mm) and an installation torque range between 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm). Additional specifications include an adjustment screw internal hex size of 5/32 inches (4 mm), locknut hex size of 9/16 inches (15 mm), and locknut torque between 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). The model weighs approximately .40 lb (.20 kg) and utilizes Viton seal kits for cartridge applications.

This valve is a modification of an FRDA. It controls flow in the bypass mode only. If the bypass pressure exceeds the pressure at the priority port the priority flow will no longer be pressure compensated. This modification was done in an attempt to improve system stability in specific cases.
- Customer must specify a flow rating. Factory set flow ratings are within +/- 10% of the requested setting.
- Maximum pressure at port 3 should be limited to 3000 psi (210 bar).
- Bypass flow is not available until priority flow requirements are satisfied.
- The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
- A tuneable adjustment control option provides up to +/- 25% variation from the nominal factory pre-set flow. Adjustment is done with +/- 3 turns of the adjust screw. Screw in (CW) to increase flow.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
