The Sun Hydraulics FPCHXAN924N (FPCHXAN924N) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve features a spring-biased open design, where energizing the coil applies a closing force on the spool proportional to the command current. This force is balanced by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice that adjusts its size based on the current applied. The valve provides significant self-compensation in one direction and can achieve proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. It allows full reverse flow without command under all conditions. This cartridge is available in both normally open and closed configurations, with three capacity ranges, making it versatile for various applications. It operates efficiently under pressures up to 5000 psi and maintains low leakage levels when closed. The solenoid coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted in either direction on the tube. The valve offers several manual override options, including no manual override, providing flexibility for different operational needs. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100\u2013250 Hz. Models equipped with specific manual controls have a mechanical life expectancy of around 7,000 cycles. The momentary-twist override option allows manual shifting by twisting clockwise 90 degrees. Additionally, this valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal binding due to installation torque or machining variations. Key specifications include a T-13A cavity size, Series 1 classification, 7 gpm (28 L/min) capacity, minimal leakage at high pressures, and specific installation torque requirements. The solenoid tube diameter is .75 inches (19 mm), while the valve hex size is .78 inches (22.2 mm). The model weighs approximately 1.10 lbs (0.50 kg) with coil included, and Viton seal kits are available for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
