The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTCN214 (FPCHTCN214) is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. The valve remains open by default due to a spring bias and closes proportionally to the command current when the coil is energized. This feature allows for a metering orifice whose size varies with the current, enabling accurate flow regulation. The FPCHTCN214 offers significant self-compensation in one direction and can provide proportional flow control in the reverse direction when paired with an external compensator. It supports full reverse flow without command in the reverse direction under all conditions. This model is available in both normally open and closed configurations, with three capacity ranges, and can operate at pressures up to 5000 psi. It features low leakage levels when closed, enhancing efficiency and performance. The valve's coils are interchangeable with other solenoid-operated valves from Sun Hydraulics, offering flexibility in installation as they can be mounted on either side of the tube. For optimal performance, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz. The FPCHTCN214 incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or machining variations. It comes with several manual override options, including a momentary-twist override that allows manual shifting by twisting 90 degrees clockwise. The mechanical life expectancy of the D, E, L, and T manual control assemblies is approximately 7,000 cycles. This cartridge valve has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min) and features a T-13A cavity design suitable for various hydraulic applications requiring reliable and precise flow control management.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
