The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTBN214 (FPCHTBN214) is a sophisticated electro-proportional throttle valve, designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This normally open valve features a spring-biased mechanism that closes proportionally to the command current applied, creating an adjustable metering orifice. It is capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi and offers low leakage levels when closed, making it suitable for high-pressure applications requiring reliable performance. The FPCHTBN214 can be configured in either normally open or normally closed settings and is available in three different capacity ranges. It allows for full reverse flow without a compensator under specific conditions, enhancing its versatility. The valve's solenoid coils are interchangeable with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, providing flexibility in installation and maintenance. For optimal functionality, it is recommended to use an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100 to 250 Hz. The manual override options include several configurations such as momentary-twist override, which allows temporary manual actuation by twisting the control 90 degrees clockwise. Engineered with Sun's floating style construction, this valve minimizes the risk of internal binding due to excessive torque or machining variations during installation. The FPCHTBN214 fits into a T-13A cavity and has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). Its design includes a manual override stroke of .10 inches (2.5 mm) and requires an installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm). With a model weight of 1.10 lb (0.50 kg), it also comes with Viton seal kits for both the cartridge and coil components, ensuring durability and compatibility with various hydraulic fluids.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
