The Sun Hydraulics FPCHMCN724 (FPCHMCN724) is a normally-open, electroproportional throttle valve designed for precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased open and utilizes an electric coil to generate a closing force on the spool, which is proportional to the command current. This force is balanced by the spring and flow forces, creating a metering orifice that adjusts according to the current. Notably, it offers self-compensation in one direction and can provide proportional flow control in the opposite direction with an external compensator. The valve allows full reverse flow without command under all conditions. The FPCHMCN724 is available in normally open or closed configurations with three capacity ranges and operates effectively at pressures up to 5000 psi. It features low leakage levels when closed and interchangeable coils compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves, which can be mounted bidirectionally on the tube. For optimal performance, use of an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz is recommended. This cartridge valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize internal part binding due to installation torque or cavity-cartridge machining variations. It includes several manual override options, such as a momentary-twist option enabling a 90-degree clockwise shift of the manual override for temporary actuation. The manual control assemblies have an estimated mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles. The FPCHMCN724 has a T13A cavity, Series 1 classification, and a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). It requires installation torque between 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm) and weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with coil included. Seal kits are available with Viton material for both cartridge and coil components for enhanced durability under various operational conditions.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
