The Sun Hydraulics FPCHMCN2D12A (FPCHMCN2D12A) is a normally open, electro-proportional throttle valve designed to provide precise flow control in hydraulic systems. This valve is spring-biased to remain open and closes proportionally to the command current applied, balancing against the spring and flow forces to create a metering orifice. It offers significant self-compensation from port 1 to 2 and can manage proportional flow control from port 2 to 1 with an external compensator. Notably, it allows full reverse flow from port 2 to 1 without command under all conditions. The valve can be configured as normally open or closed, with three capacity options, and operates at pressures up to 5000 psi while maintaining low leakage levels when closed. Its design allows for interchangeable coils with other Sun solenoid-operated valves and features multiple manual override options, including a momentary twist mechanism for temporary actuation. The FPCHMCN2D12A utilizes Sun's floating style construction, reducing internal part binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. For optimal performance, use of an amplifier with adjustable dither between 100-250 Hz is recommended. The valve fits into a T-13A cavity and supports a capacity of up to 7 gpm (28 L/min). Installation requires a torque of 30-35 lbf ft (41-47 Nm), and the model weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg) with the coil included.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
