The Sun Hydraulics DMDASAN236 (DMDASAN236) is a versatile solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for hydraulic applications requiring reliable directional control. This direct-acting, balanced spool valve features a unique soft shift option which moderates the shock typically associated with valve actuation, making it suitable for systems where shock reduction is beneficial, though it is not recommended for timing-critical applications due to its increased response time ranging from 150 ms to 300 ms. The valve's performance is influenced by factors such as flow rate, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity, and ambient temperature. Equipped with a manual override control of the push-type variety, the DMDASAN236 offers flexibility in manual operation; however, it should be noted that other manual control options are not compatible with the soft shift feature but can be installed separately in the field. The solenoid tube assembly of this model is fatigue rated for up to 5000 psi (350 bar), ensuring durability under high-pressure conditions. Additionally, this model employs EPDM seals specifically designed for use with phosphate ester fluids; exposure to petroleum-based substances should be avoided as it can damage these seals. The wet armature design of the DMDASAN236 allows the working fluid to surround the armature which might affect fluid integrity over prolonged periods of energization particularly with certain fluid types like water-glycol mixtures. To accommodate various environmental conditions, coil connector options available provide protection ratings up to IP69K and additional weatherized coils and kits can be sourced for enhanced environmental safeguarding. Moreover, Sun Hydraulics has incorporated their floating style construction into this model which minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations in cavity/cartridge setups. This construction detail helps maintain operational reliability and extends the service life of the cartridge. With a capacity of up to 5 gpm (20 L/min) and maximum operating pressure capability of 5000 psi (350 bar), this valve is an efficient solution for directional control in diverse hydraulic systems.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.
- The soft shift cartridge is interchangeable with the standard cartridge, however, the performance limits are lower.
- The soft shift feature can greatly reduce shock due to valve actuation but should not be counted upon in applications where timing is critical. If you need accurate ramping or timing control, consider Sun's electro-proportional valves.
- The soft shift feature results in significant increase in response time over Sun's standard solenoid. Response time is dependent on flow, pressure, coil voltage, oil viscosity and ambient temperature. Typical response time ranges from 150 ms to 300 ms.
- For consistent soft shift performance, port 1 should be at a positive pressure.
- This valve includes a push-type manual override control. Other manual control options such as T or D, cannot be ordered with the soft shift control but can be installed easily in the field. See Twist/Lock Manual Override link above for details. Please note: Manual override functionality is not compatible with weatherized coils.
- The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
- The solenoid's unique magnetic design results in a high efficiency solenoid, yielding high spool actuating force per Watt expended, leading to reliable valve shifting.
- Coil connector options offer ratings up to IP69K. See individual coil product pages for details. Additional weatherized coils and kits are available for more complete environmental protection.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
