The Sun Hydraulics DMDALBN712N (DMDALBN712N) is a high-performance, solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge valve designed for direct acting and balanced spool directional control. This model is particularly noted for its robust construction which includes a fatigue-rated solenoid tube assembly capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi (350 bar). Its design features closed transitions between Spools B and R, enhancing performance by providing faster and more consistent response times, especially suitable for pilot control applications where capacity is less critical. The DMDALBN712N operates efficiently without the need for minimum hydraulic pressure and incorporates a wet armature design, allowing the working fluid to surround the armature. This feature is essential for understanding the thermal dynamics as it exposes the fluid to heat generated by the coil, potentially affecting fluid characteristics over prolonged periods. Users should be aware that EPDM seals are utilized in this model, making it suitable for systems with phosphate ester fluids while being incompatible with petroleum-based substances which could damage these seals. Further enhancing its utility, the valve's coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted in either direction on the tube. The manual override mechanism provided in models with D or L control is designed for temporary actuation, supporting a mechanical life expectancy of about 7,000 cycles. Additionally, this unit features Sun\u2019s floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding\u2014a common issue in precision installations due to excessive torque or machining variations. With specifications including a flow capacity of 12 gpm (45 L/min), typical response times of 50 ms, and a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), the DMDALBN712N is an adaptable solution designed to meet rigorous industrial demands while ensuring reliability and performance consistency.

This solenoid-operated 3-way, 2-position cartridge is a direct-acting, balanced spool directional valve.

  • The solenoid tube assembly is fatigue rated for 5000 psi (350 bar) service.
  • Spools B and R are closed in the transition between their two positions. This results in a higher performance limit at the expense of lower capacity. When used as pilot controls, where capacity is not a factor, the closed transition will provide faster and more consistent response times.
  • This valve is direct actuated and requires no minimum hydraulic pressure for operation.
  • On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, L and T manual control assembly has a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • This valve utilizes a wet armature design. This means that the working fluid surrounds the armature and is exposed to the heat generated by the coil. This can be a factor if the coil is energized for long periods of time. Some fluids, notably water/glycol mixtures, break down at these temperatures over time and form varnishes that will affect the function of the cartridge.
  • Coils are interchangeable with other Sun Series 1 solenoid products and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
