The Sun Hydraulics RPIELQV (RPIELQV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve operates by opening to tank port 2 when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting, thereby throttling flow to limit pressure rise. It offers fast opening and closing capabilities at the expense of smoothness. The RPIELQV model is physically and functionally interchangeable with all 2-port relief cartridges except for pilot reliefs, sharing the same flow path and cavity for a given frame size. It can handle maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. The main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, though this valve is not recommended for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. Back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Its floating style construction minimizes internal part binding due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The RPIELQV features a T-16A cavity series with a capacity of up to 100 gpm (380 L/min).
