The Sun Hydraulics RPGELAN (RPGELAN) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve effectively manages pressure surges by throttling flow to limit pressure rise when the inlet port reaches the set valve pressure. With a rapid response time of approximately 2 ms and a low pressure rise versus flow, this valve is ideal for applications requiring quick action. It is functionally interchangeable with other 2-port relief cartridges of the same frame size, making it versatile and adaptable for various hydraulic systems. The RPGELAN model can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). It features a main stage orifice protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in demanding environments. However, it is not suitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage. This cartridge accepts maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for use in cross-port relief circuits; however, users should consider spool leakage in such configurations. The back pressure on tank port 2 directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
