The Sun Hydraulics RPGEFJV (RPGEFJV) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens rapidly at the set pressure, diverting flow to the tank port to limit pressure rise effectively. Its design ensures low pressure rise versus flow and provides quick response times, typically around 2 milliseconds. It features a 150-micron stainless steel screen protecting the main stage orifice and is not suitable for load-holding applications due to spool leakage. The RPGEFJV can handle a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). It is compatible with cross-port relief circuits but requires consideration for spool leakage in such applications. The valve's construction minimizes internal binding risks due to installation torque or machining variations. It includes EPDM seals for use with phosphate ester fluids but should not be exposed to petroleum-based substances as they may damage the seals. The valve's installation specifications include a hex size of 1-1/8 inches and an installation torque range of 45-50 lbf-ft (61-68 Nm). Adjustments are made via an internal hex screw with five clockwise turns needed to increase settings, while the locknut requires a torque of 80-90 lbf-in (9-10 Nm). This cartridge weighs approximately .50 lb (.25 kg) and is interchangeable within its series for consistent performance across applications requiring rapid pressure relief capabilities.

Fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridges are normally closed, pressure-limiting valves used to protect hydraulics components from pressure transients. Fast opening and closing is gained at the expense of smoothness. When the pressure at the inlet (port 1) reaches the valve setting, the valve starts to open to tank (port 2), throttling flow to limit the pressure rise. These valves have low pressure rise vs. flow and are very fast.
- All 2-port relief cartridges (except pilot reliefs) are physically and functionally interchangeable (same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size).
- Will accept maximum pressure at port 2; suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. If used in cross port relief circuits, consider spool leakage.
- Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
- Not suitable for use in load holding applications due to spool leakage.
- Back pressure on the tank port (port 2) is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio.
- Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
