The Sun Hydraulics RPGECVV/AP (RPGECVV/AP) is a fast-acting, pilot-operated, balanced piston relief cartridge designed to protect hydraulic components from pressure transients. This normally closed, pressure-limiting valve opens quickly at the expense of smooth operation. It begins to open when the inlet port 1 reaches the valve setting, directing flow to tank port 2 and limiting further pressure rise. Known for its low pressure rise versus flow and rapid response time of approximately 2 milliseconds, this valve is highly efficient. It can handle a maximum operating pressure of up to 5000 psi (350 bar) and a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). The valve's main stage orifice is protected by a 150-micron stainless steel screen, ensuring durability and reliability in various applications. Physically and functionally interchangeable with other two-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs, it shares the same flow path and cavity for its frame size. The RPGECVV/AP can accept maximum pressure at port 2, making it suitable for cross-port relief circuits; however, spool leakage should be considered in such applications. Notably unsuitable for load-holding applications due to potential spool leakage, this cartridge incorporates Sun's floating style construction to minimize binding risks from excessive installation torque or machining variations. The valve features an adjustment mechanism with five clockwise turns needed to increase settings and includes specific hex sizes for adjustment screw (5/32 in.), locknut (9/16 in.), and installation torque requirements between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm). Configured with EPDM seals for compatibility with phosphate ester fluids, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as it may damage the seals.
