The Sun Hydraulics RDDALBV/AP (RDDALBV/AP) is a direct-acting relief cartridge designed to function as a normally closed, pressure-limiting valve, ideal for protecting hydraulic components from pressure transients. This valve opens to the tank port when the inlet pressure reaches the set point, throttling flow to manage pressure rise. It features smooth and quiet operation with essentially zero leakage, and it is dirt tolerant and immune to silting. Notably fast in response, all 2-port relief cartridges except pilot reliefs are interchangeable within their frame size. The RDDALBV/AP can handle maximum pressure at port 2 and is suitable for use in cross port relief circuits. This valve is relatively insensitive to changes in oil temperature and contamination, making it reliable under varying conditions. For optimal performance, select a spring range where the desired setting lies between midrange and high of the minimum and maximum pressures. It is particularly suitable for load holding applications due to its design characteristics. The back pressure on the tank port directly adds to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio. The RDDALBV/AP incorporates Sun's floating style construction, reducing risks of internal part binding from excessive installation torque or machining variations. With a capacity of 25 gpm (95 L/min) and maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar), its typical response time is 2 ms with maximum leakage at reseat being 10 drops/min (0.7 cc/min). The valve features an adjustment screw with specific hex sizes for installation and adjustment purposes, ensuring precise control over settings. Suitable seal kits are available for systems using phosphate ester fluids; however, exposure to petroleum-based fluids should be avoided as they can damage EPDM seals used in this configuration.
