The Sun Hydraulics PBJBNCN (PBJBNCN) is a pilot-operated pressure reducing valve designed to manage high primary pressures at the inlet port 2, reducing them to a consistent lower pressure at port 1. This feature allows circuits with varying pressure needs to operate using a single pump. The PBJBNCN model is part of the Series 4 cartridges, which are interchangeable due to their identical flow paths and cavities across similar frame sizes. For configurations requiring full capacity return lines, it is recommended to utilize the third port with reducing-relieving cartridges. If reverse free flow from reduced pressure port 1 to inlet port 2 is necessary, incorporating an additional check valve into the circuit is advisable. The main stage orifice of this valve is safeguarded by a stainless steel screen with a 150-micron rating, ensuring reliable operation under maximum inlet pressures dictated by the adjustment range. The PBJBNCN model can handle various ranges: D, E, N, and Q up to a 2000 psi differential; A, B, and H up to 3000 psi; and C and W up to an impressive 5000 psi. Notably stable with low hysteresis, these valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure-flow characteristics but are inherently slower in response compared to direct-acting valves. Designed for use in systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids when equipped with EPDM seals, exposure to petroleum-based substances should be avoided as it may damage these seals. The valve incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal binding risks due to excessive installation torque or cavity machining variations. With specifications including a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi and control pilot flow between 15-20 in\u00b3/min., this model provides robust performance for demanding hydraulic applications. The adjustment requires up to five clockwise turns for setting increases and utilizes specific hex sizes for installation and locknut torque adjustments.

Pilot-operated, pressure reducing valves reduce a high primary pressure at the inlet (port 2) to a constant reduced pressure at port 1, allowing circuits with multiple pressure requirements to be operated using a single pump.

  • All three-port pressure reducing and reducing/relieving cartridges are physically interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). When considering mounting configurations, it is sometimes recommended that a full capacity return line (port 3) be used with reducing/relieving cartridges.
  • Full reverse flow from reduced pressure (port 1) to inlet (port 2) may cause the main spool to close. If reverse free flow is required in the circuit, consider adding a separate check valve to the circuit.
  • If pilot flow consumption is critical, consider using direct acting reducing/relieving valves.
  • Main stage orifice is protected by a 150 micron stainless steel screen.
  • Recommended maximum inlet pressure is determined by the adjustment range. Ranges D, E, N, and Q are tested with a 2000 psi (140 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges A, B, and H are tested with a 3000 psi (210 bar) maximum differential between inlet and reduced pressure. Ranges C and W are tested with 5000 psi (350 bar) of inlet pressure.
  • Pilot operated valves exhibit exceptionally flat pressure/flow characteristics, are very stable and have low hysteresis.
  • Pressure at port 3 is directly additive to the valve setting at a 1:1 ratio and should not exceed 5000 psi (350 bar).
  • Pilot operated reducing, reducing/relieving valves by nature are not fast acting valves. For superior dynamic response, consider direct acting valves.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
