The Sun Hydraulics NFDDKGN (NFDDKGN) is a versatile needle valve designed for precise flow regulation in hydraulic systems. This fully adjustable orifice is capable of controlling flow from fully closed to the maximum orifice diameter, making it suitable for use as both a flow control and shutoff valve. Notably, it is not pressure compensated, meaning that the flow rate is adjusted in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across its ports. This model features a balanced adjustment mechanism that allows for easy adjustments even under high-pressure conditions. The NFDDKGN boasts a sharp-edged orifice design that minimizes variations in flow due to changes in fluid viscosity. The valve's bidirectional flow path offers flexibility, although the preferred direction is from port 1 to port 2 to maintain interchangeability with other flow control devices. When turned to the shutoff position, this needle valve ensures zero leakage. This model supports a maximum operating pressure of 5000 psi (350 bar) and has a capacity of 50 gpm (200 L/min). It requires an installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft (61-68 Nm) and features an internal hex size for adjustment screws at 5/32 inch (4 mm). The locknut hex size measures 9/16 inch (15 mm), with torque specifications ranging from 80-90 lbf in (9-10 Nm). Additionally, cartridges configured with EPDM seals are specifically intended for systems utilizing phosphate ester fluids. It is crucial to avoid exposure to petroleum-based fluids which can damage these seals. The NFDDKGN weighs approximately 0.60 lbs (0.30 kg) and includes options for corrosion-resistant zinc-nickel plating, enhancing its durability in harsh environments.

Needle valves are fully adjustable orifices used to regulate flow. They are infinitely adjustable from fully closed up to the maximum orifice diameter. They are not pressure compensated and may be used as flow controls or as shutoff valves.

  • All 2-port flow control cartridges are physically and functionally interchangeable (i.e. same flow path, same cavity for a given frame size). However, cartridge extension dimensions from the mounting surface may vary.
  • Because needle valves are non-compensating devices, the fixed orifice size will regulate flow through the valve in proportion to the square root of the pressure differential across ports 1 and 2.
  • A balanced adjustment mechanism allows for easy adjustment even at high pressures.
  • The sharp-edged orifice design minimizes flow variations due to viscosity changes.
  • The flow path through this valve is bi-directional. The preferred path is port 1 to 2, to allow interchangeability with other flow controls.
  • There is no leakage when the adjustment mechanism is turned to the shut-off position.
  • Cartridges configured with EPDM seals are for use in systems with phosphate ester fluids. Exposure to petroleum based fluids, greases and lubricants will damage the seals.
