The Sun Hydraulics FPCHTBV2B12A (FPCHTBV2B12A) is a normally open, electroproportional throttle valve that offers precise flow control by balancing the forces generated by an energized coil and a spring. This balance creates a metering orifice with an effective size proportional to the command current. The valve is designed to operate in either direction, providing self-compensating flow control from port 1 to port 2 and allowing full reverse flow from port 2 to port 1 without a compensator. It is available in both normally open and closed configurations with three capacity ranges, capable of handling pressures up to 5000 psi. The valve features low leakage levels when closed and interchangeable coils that can be mounted in either direction, compatible with other Sun solenoid-operated valves. For optimal performance, the use of an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither (100-250 Hz) is recommended. The FPCHTBV2B12A also offers several manual override options, including a momentary-twist feature that allows for manual operation by twisting the override clockwise by 90 degrees. Its construction minimizes internal part binding due to installation torque or machining variations. The cartridge fits into cavity T-13A and has a capacity of 7 gpm (28 L/min). It requires a manual override force of 5 lbs at 1000 psi (33 N at 100 bar) for port 1. With dimensions such as a solenoid tube diameter of .75 inches (19 mm) and valve hex size of .78 inches (22.2 mm), this model has an installation torque range of 30-35 lbf-ft (41-47 Nm) and weighs approximately 1.10 lb (0.50 kg). Seal kits are available in Viton material for both cartridge and coil components.

This valve is a normally-open, electro-proportional throttle. The valve is spring biased open. Energizing the coil generates an closing force on the spool proportional to the command current and this force is countered by the spring and flow forces. This force balance creates a metering orifice whose effective size is proportional to the current. The valve exhibits a large degree of self-compensation in the 1 to 2 direction and will provide proportional flow control in the 2 to 1 direction with the addition of an external compensator. Full reverse flow (2 to 1) with no command in the 2 to 1 direction is possible without a compensator under all conditions.
- Available in either a normally open or normally closed configuration with three different capacity ranges.
- Capable of operating with pressures up to 5000 psi.
- Low leakage levels in the closed position.
- Coils are interchangeable with Sun's other full flow, solenoid-operated valves and can be mounted on the tube in either direction.
- This cartridge has several manual override choices, including no manual override. See Option Configuration.
- For optimum performance, an amplifier with current sensing and adjustable dither should be used. Dither should be adjustable between 100 - 250 Hz.
- On models equipped with the D or L control, the detent mechanism in the manual override is meant for temporary actuation. The D, E, L and T manual control assemblies have a mechanical life expectancy of approximately 7,000 cycles.
- The momentary/twist override option "E" allows the operator to shift the valve by twisting the manual override clockwise 90 degrees.
- Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
