The Sun Hydraulics CKEFSCV (CKEFSCV) is a pilot-to-open check valve designed with a steel seat and sealed pilot, ensuring minimal cross-port leakage and high durability in hydraulic circuits. This valve facilitates free flow from port 2 to load port 1 while blocking flow in the reverse direction. It operates with a pilot pressure that is proportional to the load pressure at port 1, with the ability to maintain operation even with a low pilot pressure of about 15 psi above the vent pressure. Notably, this model features a positive seal between ports 2 and 3 and showcases an extremely low leakage rate, which is crucial for applications requiring hose break protection and prevention of load drifting. The CKEFSCV valve is particularly noted for its capacity to handle up to 30 gpm/120 L/min and withstand maximum operating pressures of up to 5000 psi/350 bar. Its design incorporates Sun's floating style construction which minimizes internal parts binding—a common issue due to excessive installation torque or cavity/cartridge machining variations. The valve's pilot ratio stands at 3:1, ensuring effective backpressure management. Additionally, the model's dimensions include a valve hex size of 1-1/8 in./28.6 mm and an installation torque between 45-50 lbf ft/61-68 Nm, weighing approximately .50 lb/0.25 kg. This valve is not suitable for motion control applications; instead, it is recommended for scenarios where locking valves are necessary but not for controlling overrunning loads. For motion control needs, counterbalance valves are advised due to their better suitability for dynamic load management. The CKEFSCV model’s specialized applications make it ideal for systems where high reliability and performance are critical under varying hydraulic conditions.

This valve is a pilot to open check valve. It has a sealed pilot, a steel seat, and is vented. It allows free flow from the valve (port 2) to the load (port 1) and blocks flow in the opposite direction. Pressure at the external pilot port will open the valve from port 1 to port 2. Pilot pressure needed to open the valve is directly proportional to the load pressure at port 1. The valve is insensitive to pressure at port 2 because the spring chamber references the vent (port 3).

  • There is a positve seal between ports 2 and 3.
  • These valves should be considered service items only. New applications should use valves from the CV*V family.
  • This valve has a proportional pressure reducing characteristic that limits the pressure developed at port 1 to about 75% of the pressure at port 2.
  • Pilot pressure as low as 15 psi (1 bar) higher than the pressure at the vent can prevent the valve from closing.
  • Provides hose break protection, prevents loads from drifting and positively locks pressurized loads.
  • Sealed pilot for use in circuits where cross port leakage is undesirable.
  • Pilot-to-open check cartridges are locking valves, not motion control valves. For motion control applications, use counterbalance valves.
  • Extremely low leakage. If the load drifts due to the valve, the seat has probably been damaged by contamination and the valve should be replaced.
  • This 3 port pilot-to-open check valve is not physically interchangeable with other 3 port pilot-to-open check valves or counterbalance valves due to the different pilot/vent configuration.
  • Incorporates the Sun floating style construction to minimize the possibility of internal parts binding due to excessive installation torque and/or cavity/cartridge machining variations.
