If the universal inverters IndraDrive ML (HMU) are operated as a mains supply, they generate a controlled DC bus voltage that is greater than the mains voltage peak value. The mains throttles provide the power required for this step-up converter operation. They also suppress the low-frequency harmonics. After a certain size, throttles are divided into a pre-throttle and a chopper throttle.
